EDEN MONMARTRE HOTEL THE AREA |
EDEN MONTMARTRE HOTEL
Built under Napoleon III and before Baron Haussmann began the transformation of Paris, the Hotel Eden Montmartre, formerly called the Hotel Montmartre, occupied a strategic place for travelers coming to Paris from the French provinces. As was typically true for the time, the hotel was then surrounded by stables for horses. The development of the city over the course of the 20th century converted these stables into sumptuous Haussmann-era buildings..
Today, you’ll note the very beautiful Notre-Dame-de-Clignancourt church (1859-1863), 100 metres in length, next to the Jules Joffrin metro station. It was furnished and endowed with sacred relics by the Empress Eugénie, wife of Napoleon III. Across, you have the Mairie of the 18th district. It is known, among other things, for its superb civil marriage hall and its large open courtyard. Formerly known as the Community of Montmartre, the Mairie merged with Paris on January 1, 1860 to become the 18th district of the city. Georges Clémenceau was mayor from 1870 to 1871.
Partially destroyed during the time of the “Commune”, the Hotel Eden Montmartre was rebuilt and served as accommodation for the major merchants who brought provisions into the city of Paris to feed the inhabitants. In each room there was a large hearth that the hotel personal kept stocked with wood. Even if we took away these magnficent fireplaces, which no longer corresponded to today’s safety standards, we have preserved the molding on the ceilings as a reminder of the hotel’s historical style.
In the past, guests took their meals on the ground floor. In the cellar, the wine was stored, (preferably the Bordeaux; and of course some Sauternes as well). In the family, the story goes that between the wars, the exters demanded Suduiraut 1905; with its golden colour tinged amber with age and with a citrus aroma It was the vintage of the century.
Thanks to its location, services, and the professionalism of its successive masters, the Hotel de Montmartre became a veritable institution. Guests came from everywhere and it was widely recommended among travelers, well before the advent of Tripadvisor!!
The 21st century brought about more changes for our establishment. It earned stars and took on the name Eden. In 2008, the hotel underwent renovations within its two star category. Today the Hotel Eden Montmartre is again a 3 star property. In 2013, we took on major renovation work and updates. In addition, far from taking the standard approach and looking like all the rest, we have worked on the style and comfort of our guest rooms to bring back an air of the Paris of yesteryear. We have chosen colours and materials that successfully wed both contemporary style and historic charm. It’s just another way for us to help you enjoy even more of the delights of Paris…
Don't forget :
With its theaters, quaint museums, cabarets, grape harvests, unique and incredible spots, the Montmartre area has remained one of the capital’s most authentic areas and it has become the most visited district of the city. Don’t pass through without coming to see us!!!
